Data Transferal
August 27, 2007 at 11:29 am | In Blogroll | 2 CommentsWell, today I’m moving all of my Other side and other Flash stuff onto my laptop, so I can take it away with me when I move at the end of this week. If it doesn’t work, well, I’m kinda stuffed, so let’s just hope it does…
This also means there probabbly won’t be an update again this Friday, because I won’t have made any progress and I’ll probabbly be a bit busy on that day anyway
So fingers crossed for transferring this to work out…
Update on Time!
August 20, 2007 at 10:03 pm | In Blogroll | Leave a CommentYes, i managed to make an update on time again, luckily, although it’s not with much new info on the game, I geuss there isn’t really much I can tell you other than the fact it’s continuing on slowly, it’s not like SSBB for example with billions of tiny little elements to it, the fact I’ve done barely any work isn’t a contrbiuting factor *shifty eyes*
I do have one thing to do however, I want to point out something I’ve spotted in my site visits. When the site was first updated again, I got a rather healthy 34 visitors, sollowed by a slight dip the next day and another small increase to about 36 for two days(this isn’t really important, I’m babbling). However, although I’m updating on Mondays and Friday, the peaks aren’t on those days, so it’s obvious that the visitors to the site are slightly eratic and are most likely newbies on hyrule.net clicking on my shiny sig (I’m watching you!)
What I would like, if possible, would be possibly a bit more exposure for the Site and Most Importantly, the game. I don’t have much to show at the moment, but If i start getting tons of visitors, of course I’ll have to get on with it. Of course it still seems unlikely at the moment that I’ll miss the release date I’ve set myself, but every little bit of motivation helps.
Combos
August 18, 2007 at 3:07 pm | In Attacks, Blogroll, Details | Leave a CommentWait, I was supposed to update yesterday? well this isn’t going so well.
I’m not slacking off my code’s compiling.
In LoZ: The other Side, you will be able to pull off fluid combos, to effectively take down your enemies, in fact some enemies will be able to protect themselves completely unless you start using combos. Although you can try and pull off combos yourself, this means you have to wait for each attack to end to begin the next one.
So what will be added to the game is the ability to move straight onto another attack as soon as you’ve made the first one and there would be several logical ways you can continue for each attack.
Take for example, you’ve made a stab, once link has stretched right out in the stabbing mtion again, you can click to the side of him to stab again and you can keep repeating this, kinda like his combo move in SSBM. In fact, this would probabbly be comparable to Roy or Marth’s combo moves from SSBM.
Hopefully at some point I’ll be able to show you some videos of how these work in action and how much damage your enemies will take.
Controls
August 15, 2007 at 12:14 pm | In Blogroll | 2 CommentsOk, I didn’t update Monday because i didn’t have access to a computer, but yesterday was just moronic…
Anyway, today I’m going to go fully over the controls of the whole game. I may detail a little tutorial video at one stage, because I’ll need instructions in-game, but I’m leaving that for now.
Firstly, basic movement, as done by the WASD keys, AD for left and right, S for duck, W for jump. Currently you can only single jumo, but I may later implement in the game (i.e. after the demo) a double jump in order to be able to use the aerial sword attacks more freely.
Secondly, sword attacks, these are controlled by clicking at certain point on the screen, for example, clicking at the point up and infront of link will cause him to do an uppercut, wheras directly in front will cause him to do a stab. You can attack while on the ground, crouching, in the air, or while running.
Now for the items. For the Arrows, Boomerang and Ball and Chain, once you bring them out with the respecting number key, all you need to do is point the mouse where you want them to go (a crosshair will appear) and click. For bombs, you bring them out with the 2 key, to throw them, click in front of link, to just drop them, click link. You can also put them out by pressing the spacebar and away again by pressing the space bar again. Finally, once activated, the spinner travels forwards of its own accord, jumping lets you attack and there’s several other things you do while on the spinner too….
Revamp
August 10, 2007 at 7:55 pm | In Blogroll, Progress | Leave a CommentOk, here’s goes with the biweekly updates, first friday update!
Firstly, I want to point out that I’ve sorted out the to do list again (couple of things i’ve done), There will now be only 5 items in the moblin fight demo as there’s no point in coding the other 5 yet as they have no relevance to combat. So the 5 items that WILL be in the game are
1)Arrows
2)Bombs
3)Boomerang
4)Spinner
5)Ball and Chain
This is assuming I don’t have any major coding problems. Currently the arrows are mostly working and the spinner is completely working, but I want to give it a redesign. Don’t really expect any new screenshots because there wouldn’t be much in them that you havn’t seen before, although i’ll have to see what else I can provide that will keep your interest
Hey! Listen!
August 6, 2007 at 5:51 pm | In Blogroll | Leave a CommentOk, back to work.
For starters, if you’re the completely oblivious type and havn’t noticed the new Banner at the top of the page, I have announced/am announcing now, the Proper name for Zelda 2d (not the codename like that is). The game shall be called:
The Legend of Zelda: The Other Side
Not too shabby eh?
I’ve decided that daily updates to the site is pretty much a waste of topic considering I very rarely make sufficient progress within a day, so I will now be updating the blog on a biweekly basis, probabbly every monday and friday. Hopefully I will be making plenty of progress to show you.
I am also going to keep a permanent site for all info I release (still under construction really, the whole system is going to be updated soon , so once that’s done, everything so far will go up. That can be found here: http://my.hyrule.net/gingerlink/
As you can see, not a lot at the moment, that will all change soon
Also, I will be keeping my newgrounds profile active, hopefully this will also increase the traffic and any possible hype from newgrounds, which ought to be great. My newgrounds profile can be found here:
http://gingerlink.newgrounds.com/
Finally, if you came here by some strange link that didn’t actually originate there, you should visit www.hyrule.net
Phew, Long post
Hiatus
August 1, 2007 at 9:49 pm | In Blogroll, Progress | Leave a CommentLet me just point out to anyone still visiting the site, that everything here is currently on Hiatus, I will probabbly make a large update soon, most likely next monday.
Just to fill you in on what happened, snow beat wasn’t going to be ready in time for how i wanted it, so i stopped working on it, I may return to it at some point to remake it, not taking all the same shortcuts and hopefully making it a really good quality game, but for now it’s on the backburner.
I decided to take a break from flash for a short while as it was the start of my summer holidays, but I am making progress now so with anyluck, you ought to expect to see lots of cool things soon!
